Tabletop Adventure Gaming (TAG) Mini-Con @ RRPL In-Person
Welcome to TAG Con 2024, Round Rock Public Library's first Tabletop Adventure Gaming mini-convention!
RRPL is inviting patrons to come play a variety of tabletop role-playing games (such as Dungeons & Dragons) in a shared, multi-table setting. This will be a convention-like atmosphere; children sensitive to loud sounds or aggressive pantomimed actions may not be suited for this event. All game masters for the Friday event are either library staff or registered volunteers who've passed background checks.
Friday, June 21st is the convention day dedicated to younger players, ages 10 -13. We will have two separate sessions, but space is very limited-attendees may only sign up for one 2-hour session. This is not a drop-off event; parents/guardians do not have to attend the event, but must remain in the library for its duration.
EVENT SCHEDULE
12:00 - 12:30 pm: Check-In and Game Sign-up/Character Selection
12:30 - 2:30 pm: First game sessions
2:30 - 3 pm: Check-In and Game Sign-Up/Character Selection
3:00 - 5 pm: Second Game Sessions
At each set of sessions, the following four games will be offered:
DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, 5TH EDITION
- Players per session: 8
- Adventure Title: “Summer Camp of Doom”
- Description: It is a breezy summer day in your village of Ironvale. You board a rickety yellow wagon drawn by four black horses as your parents wave goodbye. You and your friends are travelling to Stabby Marvin’s Camp for Young Adventurers! The driver, a grizzled old Dwarf with a red beard and a scar where his right ear should be turns to you and says, “I’m Horgul Hammerhand, I’ll be your guide. Settle in and get to know each other, we’ve got a long ride ahead.”
MARVEL SUPER HEROES (TSR)
- Players per session: 10
- Adventure name: “Trapped in Doom Station”
- Description: You, one of the famous Marvel super-heroes, awaken trapped, held fast on metal tables by gleaming bands of an unknown alloy that radiate and hum with energy. Surrounded by other heroes similarly restrained amongst computers and walls of scientific apparatus, you see standing before all of you the green-caped and metal-clad Dr. Doom! He gestures to unknown persons behind you, and exclaims, “You see, my technology-boosted sorcery has befuddled all of these thorns in our side, enabling me to trap them here for the power-stealing procedure. Soon, all their powers will be mine… I mean, ours!” You don’t know how you got here, or even where here is, but you know you must find a way to break free, and fight!
VAULTS OF VAARN
- Players per session: 10
- Adventure name: “Raiders of the Black Ziggurat”
- Adventure description: Vaults of Vaarn is a science-fantasy game based on the D&D rules. Vaarn is an ancient world circling a dying star, scattered with ruins upon ruins of fallen civilizations. The mysterious Black Ziggurat looms above the wastes, its dark depths holding treasure, fantastic technology, and lost knowledge for those resourceful and bold enough to avoid its creatures, traps, and other defenses. Grab your sword and blaster, ready your mutations and mental powers, and prepare to raid the Vaults of Vaarn!
ORIGINAL DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (“WHITE BOX”)
- Max # of Players: 8
- Adventure name: The Wizard's Tower
- Adventure description: Peace has finally been brokered between the gnome and human kingdoms. Unfortunately, during peace talks, the crown prince has been found to be missing. The gnomic lords suggest foul play and will not sign the peace treaty without the prince's imperial signet ring. What's worse, oracles cry out that the prince has been taken to the tower of the fell wizard Gleep Wurp the Eye-Biter! The great heroes of the realm are out on urgent business - your merry band of misfit adventurers are the only ones that can be mustered to march on the wizard's tower. The fate of nations depends on your swift action!
Each of these games is generally appropriate for ages 10 and up, but not every child is suited for every game. TTRPGs feature simulated combat and battle, and mild descriptions of fantasy violence will occur.
Parents of attending children MUST remain in the library during the game session and will be called upon to deal with any behavior issues immediately. Children younger than 10 may not sit at the game tables, as they can easily disrupt gameplay. Children are of course welcome to leave the games early but will not be monitored in any way once they've left.
Other Considerations:
- Costumes, (aka Cosplay) are welcome, but please no weapons, fake or otherwise
- The Friday event will require online pre-registration, as well as signing-in before the games begin. Any attendee arriving more than 10 minutes late will forfeit their spot, which will then be offered to any waitlist alternate.
- This is our first attempt at a gaming convention, and we welcome your feedback to improve future events.
