Adopt-a-Shelf Training (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

Adopt-a-Shelf Training (ages 8-12) (preregistration) In-Person

Build a better community this summer!

The Round Rock Public Library invites summer readers, ages 8-12, to volunteer at the library. Participants will be assigned a set of shelves or areas of the library to “adopt” in June and July.

Those who complete the program will be invited to our special end-of-summer volunteer-only party with Austin Reptile Show on August 4th.

Adopt-a-Shelf Volunteers:

  • Take responsibility for a certain area of the library by dusting, straightening, and keeping shelves in order.
  • Model positive behavior for younger library visitors.
  • Discover and share books you might have never noticed before.

Please Note:

It is recommended that a responsible adult attend the training session with their child to learn about the program. Space is available on a first-come / first-serve basis and online preregistration is required. Participants will earn a certificate for completing this program, however, participants are not able to earn community service hours for this volunteer program.

Program Requirements:

  • Attendance at one of the Adopt-a-Shelf training sessions is required to participate in this program. Preregistration for a training session is required. There will be two identical training sessions: Monday, June 2 at 1 pm and Tuesday, June 3 at 5 pm. Please register for only one of the training sessions.
  • Participants must visit the library and maintain their assigned area at least four times during the Summer Reading Challenge to attend the end-of-summer volunteer-only party. Volunteer visits may occur any time between June 4, 2025 – July 31, 2025. A responsible adult must accompany Adopt-a-Shelf volunteers during their visit.
  • Participants must be between the ages of 8-12.
