Musician MeetUp! In-Person

Interested in playing music with others and/or learning more about music performance? Come to our Musician Meetup! These gathering are planned for the 2nd Saturday of each month, 3:30 – 5pm. This is an open forum, where participants can give their ideas about things to play or discuss, and there will be an open-mic style sign-up for part of the time. Everyone interested in music-making is welcome, no matter your skill level. We'll be in Room C, one of the large meeting rooms on the 1st floor.

What happens at each meetup will be determined by who shows up, but here’s a list of potential activities and pursuits during this hour and a half:

  • Improvisation – Often referred to as ‘jamming’, we’ll use a basic chord progression or rhythm to practice improvising. Through this process, everyone participating can learn more about key signatures, scales, and how to match a musical vibe. Creating quick backing tracks in a digital audio workstation will also be demonstrated and explained.
  • Learning From The Greats – When appropriate, the meetup leader will play modern or classic tunes that demonstrate excellent songwriting or performance. The group might then play along with the piece or try their hand at composing something similar.

All instruments are welcome except drum sets and other very loud percussion. If you prefer to play electric instruments, you’ll need to bring your own amplifier, however, there will be a small PA available to plug in keyboards or that sort of thing. Expect to play any amp, (or horn if you're bringing brass and woodwinds) at a low-enough volume to politely match any acoustic instruments present.

Hoping to see you there and spread the word! Any questions, comments, or ideas, please email: edwardyoung@roundrocktexas.gov
